Frames and cases

Clear 3 mm cast acrylic covers that lift off a solid base. A routed channel in the base keeps the cover square and dust-tight without clips. Four shapes, because sets are not all cubes: Upright for helmets, droids and plants, Tabletop for buildings and dioramas, Vehicle for cars and Skyline for the shallow Architecture skylines.

Timber shadow frames with acrylic glazing, which is lighter and safer in a courier box than glass. Sets sit on hidden studded plates fixed to the backing, so nothing is glued and a set can be lifted out if you ever want it back on a shelf.

For most sets the number that decides the fit is depth, not width. Our frames are 5 to 15 cm deep inside; a helmet or a building needs a case.

We allow at least 2 cm of clearance on width and depth and 3 cm on height, so a set never touches the acrylic. To measure your own set: width is left to right as it is displayed, depth is front to back, and height includes any stand or plaque. Measure at the widest point, including anything that sticks out.

Outer sizes are a little larger than the interior because of the base and the frame or acrylic walls. If you are measuring a shelf or an alcove, email us for the exact outer size of the piece you are looking at.

The fit finder suggests a size from a set number or from your own measurements. Built dimensions vary by a centimetre or two with posing, so we confirm the fit for your exact set by email before anything is dispatched.

• Frames: black, white or oak. Oak adds R120 to R200 depending on the frame.
• Case bases: black or white painted MDF, or oak veneer. Oak adds R150 to R200 depending on the case.
• Backings: charcoal board or natural linen on the shadow box frame; linen, charcoal or off-white on the botanical frame.
• Glazing: clear acrylic as standard; anti-reflective acrylic on the art mosaic frame for walls that face a window.
• Plaques: engraved brass plaques for a name and a date or a short line. We email a proof before engraving, and engraved items cannot be returned for a change of mind.

• Frames come with a hanging plate and a paper drilling template. The minifigure frame can hang or stand on a fold-out strut.
• Use fixings that suit the wall: plugs and screws for brick and plaster, drywall anchors for boards.
• Our floating ledges are rated to 5 kg per metre when fixed into masonry; the helmet bracket to 2 kg with the supplied plugs and screws.
• Hang pieces away from direct sun. UV yellows bricks over time, and a frame or case is not a sun shield.
• Large sizes ship as bulky parcels. See shipping and returns.
